great
reading ideas...
It
is never too late to get your children interested in
reading. Having your childe snuggle with
you, with a good book will go a long way
towards helping your child develop an interest in reading.
Read-to books should be about two years above your child's actual
reading level. He/she gets to not only see and hear you reading but
also to hear vocabulary and ideas which he/she could not grasp from
reading on his/her own book.
Books your
child reads to you should be ones which he/she can read without
"missing" too many words. Books which require your
child to ask you from 5 through 10 words per page are likely too difficult for
recreational reading and may frustrate your child. Reading
levels are given on the back of many trade books today. Your child's
teacher may recommend books, and libraries maintain recommended
age-appropriate reading lists. Better yet, pull out some of those
old favorites that you enjoyed at about the same age and which may
no longer be in print. |
